The Book: Quietud Sagrada

Thirteen Doors to Return Home

Carmine (Tony) Colarusso

Ricordati di tornare a casa

When the world falls silent, the soul remembers.

Double wooden door in a white marble portal with two columns; open, it gives onto the sea at sunset, with the sun on the horizon and two angels among the clouds

What it is about

Through thirteen doors, the book follows a question that remains open for its author: how to carry what he has lived in prayer, silence and the internal arts into caring for his family, into his work, and into the decisions of each day.

Quietud Sagrada is also born of his life as a son, a husband and a father: of the bonds that held him up, of his losses, and of what has been hard for him to understand.

The book is not yet for sale. The publication date will be announced on this page. The book is written in Spanish; an English edition is not yet available.

The Monthly Letter

The publication date will reach the monthly letter first: a short letter, once a month.

«For me, stillness is precision with tenderness: the instant when we stop defending ourselves against life and can at last listen to it».
Author’s note

The question

what do I do with what I have lived when I come back home?

I write this book to sow a seed. I would like whoever reads it to find a possibility they had not seen before, something that encourages them to ask and to explore their own life.

How to read it

You can read one door a week, or stay longer in the one that asks for it. These pages offer references and company; each reader will discover the inner journey along the way.

If you prefer to follow the story, you can leave the practices for a second reading.

The first part returns to childhood, to the body, and to the questions that made the search possible. The second enters the night: what is hard to acknowledge, and the help we receive. The third carries what has been lived toward decisions, bonds, and care. The order follows my story; it does not describe stages everyone must pass through in the same way.

In each door you will find an experience, words that have kept me company, and an invitation to pause. You can carry a phrase with you through the day. You need not live what I lived to recognize something of your own in these pages.

Return to Door X when you need to look at your decisions in the light of your values. Come back to Door XIII when you wish to make peace with your lineage.

From the prologue

“Son, there are books written with ink, and there are books written with breaths.”

“If you pause at each door, if you consent to each practice even when it seems small, you will discover that calm is not a luxury but a kindly labor.”
