Door VII · Part Two · The Night: Of the Tunnel of Yellow Light
«The garment becomes light. The body unclothes itself without shame to enter the space where there are no longer two».

The Golden Leopard Trains Its Claws
The book describes this form step by step. The description accompanies learning with an instructor and, afterwards, helps you remember the movements.
«I have decided not to teach these arts to anyone under eighteen». Common Guide to the Practices.
- Opening
- Sense, soften, and smile from the heart.
- Repetitions
- The choice, frequency and repetitions of each form are learned with the instructor.
- Closing
- When both sides are done, gather the Chi to harvest and to flow. Let that time open into stillness, and finish with the common closing at the lower Dantian and the facial massage.
- Care
- If a movement causes pain or dizziness, stop.
To carry into the day
«Gracias»
A personal gesture for this door, independent of the school’s exercise:
- Sit with your back upright and loose.
- Breathe naturally and let your inner self whisper AVVA, without forcing the word into a rhythm. AVVA is the word I use; if you have another, use your own.
- If a color or an image appears, let it pass. If nothing appears, the gesture keeps its meaning.
- To close, touch the ground with your fingers and say: “Gracias.”
Seven days
Each day, make the gesture with your word and close it by touching the ground. Then mark the day.

«If something does not serve you, let it go». What you mark stays on this device.
Write from there
If you can, write on white paper with a graphite pencil. If you don’t have them at hand, write here and then print your notebook.
What you write here is neither sent nor saved: it is erased when you close the site or reload the page. Print it before you leave, and read your journal again often.
More about this door
«En la noche dichosa,en secreto, que nadie me veía,ni yo miraba cosa, sin otra luz y guíasino la que en el corazón ardía».
With no other light than the one burning in the heart. John sings of the passage through the night, the house at rest. Mine was not sought.

St. John of the Cross in the book- AVVA
- A name that first came to the author during a meditation with Dr. Li, in Santa Marta, in October 2012. It is kept in the form in which he remembers it; see Door VII.
- Metanoia
- A deep change of mind and attitude. Jung links metanoia with spiritual rebirth (“The Undiscovered Self (Present and Future),” § 536) and, in another passage, speaks of a change of mind that recognizes the whole human being (“Flying Saucers: A Modern Myth,” § 719). Both texts appear in Civilization in Transition, Collected Works, vol. 10. In Doors II and VII, the author links it with his experience of inner transformation, whose path he discovers by walking it. That personal description is not a technical definition of Jung’s. The author also describes it as “that other inner space where, for me, two plus two can open onto the infinite.” This image, together with those in the entries “Orthonoia” and “Paranoia,” expresses his personal way of telling what happens to him.
- Trance
- The author uses the word in a personal sense: an entry into immensity, “where all is nothing and nothing is all,” and a descent into the depths of the unconscious to approach wounds, fears learned in childhood, and painful experiences gathered since; that learned programming he calls the programming of the mind. “Cleansing,” when he says it, means recognizing and working with those wounds; not erasing memories or promising a cure. The book does not teach how to induce it.
- Jing, Chi, Shen
- The three treasures of the Chinese tradition, as taught in the author’s school: Jing, essence, the dimension of the body; Chi (Qi), vital energy; Shen, spirit, mind, and consciousness. They are related dimensions of one life, not separate compartments or medical quantities.
- Eighteen Lohan Arts
- A series of the Shaolin Wahnam school, distinct from the Eighteen Hands; from it come the exercises the author chose for Doors VI, VII, IX, and XIII (Open the Window and Gaze at the Moon, The Golden Leopard Trains Its Claws, The Great Bird Spreads Its Wings, Father and Son Together).
- Bardo Thodol
- A Tibetan Buddhist text known as The Tibetan Book of the Dead. In Door VII, the author tells of working with it alongside Dr. Li, in Santa Marta, in January 2013.
- May 16, 1993
The road from El Junquito to Puerto Maya: a motorcycle fall.
- January 28, 2011
Sibundoy Valley, in the Upper Putumayo.
- October 2012
Santa Marta: a word arrives, AVVA.
- January 2013
